About Alexandra

Alexandra Vlahakes, PsyD, is a licensed clinical psychologist at Brighter Life Therapy, PLLC. Dr. Vlahakes is also trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) through Behavioral Tech, LLC. Her specialties include helping adolescents and adults struggling with depression and anxiety, PTSD and trauma-related disorders, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, and people struggling with emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal issues. Dr. Vlahakes takes a particular interest in working with persons struggling with borderline personality disorder, as well as dissociative disorders.

Dr. Vlahakes completed her Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences at Boston University. She went on to earn her Doctor of Psychology in clinical psychology from William James College, with an en-route Master’s degree in professional psychology. She is licensed in the state of Massachusetts.

Dr. Vlahakes completed her postdoctoral fellowship training at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates in Boston, Massachusetts, where she treated children, adolescents, and adults. Prior to this she was employed at McLean Hospital where she acquired her training in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). She also trained at Massachusetts Mental Health Center in Boston, MA, and the Dr. Solomon Carter Fuller Mental Health Center in forensic neuropsychology. Dr. Vlahakes currently works part-time as a staff psychologist on an inpatient unit for adults through Beth Israel Lahey.

In clinical psychotherapy Dr. Vlahakes employs evidence-based therapeutic methods, including dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), as well as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and psychodynamic principles. Dr. Vlahakes is highly skilled at individually tailoring treatment in a collaborative, compassionate, and non-judgmental manner to best serve every client.

When not working with clients Dr. Vlahakes enjoys spending time with loved ones, practicing mindfulness, watching documentaries, exercising in nature, and painting.
